Selecting Your Footage

One of the unique features of the Producers Library website is the ability to select portions of a clip on the website (called "Slices") and then purchase the license for the Slices online. This is the fastest, most convenient method to license footage in the industry. To use our Master Slice Selector (MSS) follow the instructions below:

How to select a Slice using the Master Slice Selector (MSS):

  1. On the clip page, pause the clip at the start point in which you would like to create your Slice. You can use the left and right arrow keys on your keyboard to move through the video a frame at a time to fine-tune your selection.
NOTE: Be sure the player is selected in order to activate keyboard shortcuts. You can select the player by clicking on it.

  2. Once you have determined the starting point for your slice, in the orange box below, click the left, highlighted arrow icon to set the In Point. You can also set the In Point by pressing the "I" key on your keyboard.
NOTE: Be sure the player is selected in order to activate keyboard shortcuts. You can select the player by clicking on it.

  3. Using the timeline on the web player, advance the video to the point where you would like to end your Slice. You can use the left and right arrow keys on your keyboard to fine tune your selection as described in step 1.

  4. Once you have determined the starting point for your slice, in the orange box below, click the right, highlighted arrow icon to set the Out Point. Your Slice is now selected. You can also set the Out Point by pressing the "O" key on your keyboard.
NOTE: Be sure the player is selected in order to activate keyboard shortcuts. You can select the player by clicking on it.

  5. To view your Slice, click the orange play button below the player.
NOTE: Your slice should be the exact amount of footage you intend to license. Do not add extra time before and after your intended selection (sometimes referred to as "handles" or "padding"). Extra time before and after your selection will be added free-of-charge upon delivery.

  6. If you are unhappy with the Slice and want to start over, simply click the orange trashcan icon below the player to delete the Slice.

  7. If you would like to order multiple Slices from one clip, simply repeat the process of selecting the In and Out Points described above.
NOTE: It is not possible to select overlapping Slices.

  8. When you have finished selecting all of your Slices, click the “Add To Cart” button. When you view your cart you will see your selected clips listed as Slice 1, Slice 2 etc. Checkout when you are ready to purchase.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Slices cannot be added to Clip Bins, unless they have already been added to the Cart. If you add a clip to a Clip Bin without first adding your Slices to the Cart, the Slices will not be saved. If added to the Cart, Slices will stay attached to clips until they are ordered or removed to cart. Any Slices not added to the Cart will be lost.
